Randomly Asked Questions
At Leave a Note, we've evolved a style that adheres to no particular genre. We’ll leave it to others to label what we do while we stand behind what we say. Here’s some answers to things we’ve been asked.
To Morris: Have you got something against New Jersey?
Nothing at all. As a boy growing up in the New York State of Mind, an hour’s drive from Palisades Park, I remember not being allowed on the roller coaster because I was too short but having an otherwise wonderful time despite that being the only ride I really really wanted to go on. And in my home village I hung out with some posh kids visiting regularly from Tenafly but, come to think of it, don’t remember ever being invited into their house. Then, many years later, I spotted a quote from Patti Smith wherein she declared well, “I am from New Jersey” as if answering an accusation. So I looked at my own rootlessness and worked out that not being from there is one of the few things I can be sure of.
To Morris: Which is superior - crunchy peanut butter or smooth?
I would choose smooth but some people near and dear to me praise crunchy so, to avoid a heated backlash, I decline to press my case for the taste of smooth. However, crunchy lovers should insist on paying less for it because somewhere sometime somebody up the supply chain discovered “hey, we don’t have to finish smashing up all these nuts to sell this stuff at the same price! Bonus!”
To Morris: Why do you and Patricia almost have the same name?
We’re married. Patricia's maiden name is Morris so she hyphenated. It's been suggested that I adopt that version and become Morris Morris-Helm sort of like Boutros Boutros-Ghali, who did ok for himself. I'm thinking about it.
